notmypresident: (Happy Girl!)
Good news is going to be hard to come by for the next four years, but (thank the gods) every once in while there's a glimmer of hope.

I was saddened/angry yesterday when I read that Jennifer Holiday had agreed to perform during Trump's coronation ceremonies. I remember seeing Holiday in a preview performance of "Dreamgirls" on Broadway years ago. Holiday was an unknown at that point and no-one in the audience that night was prepared by her history-making delivery of "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going." It was one of those special moments that I will never forget.

As a Gay man, it was upsetting to see that Holiday had agreed to perform for Trump. Even worse, Trump would undoubtedly have used her presence to further claim that Black Americans wholeheartedly support him. So you can imagine my relief to read this morning that Holiday has changed her mind after hearing how some in the Gay community were reacting to her choice. It's so incredibly important for celebrities to realize that they must not feed this man's ego (except for Republican celebrities, who seem to be using the "can't we all just get along" argument to rationalize their being such collaborators).

Even more uplifting was this video of Gay farmer Jay Lavery shaking his booty to Sia's "Cheap Thrills" while preforming morning chores at his upstate New York farm. I'm not really into "spontaneous" videos like this (which are anything but spontaneous), but this one was especially moving. The freedom that Jay exhibits is so incredibly gratifying, especially in this day and age. You can read the whole story here.

I'll take good news any time, even if they're few and far between.

And now, Another Hot Guy.
